“Now that school has transitioned to an online format, Mrs. KV contacts the students and parents by email or phone, which includes evenings and weekends to make sure they are still working on their homework and their educational goals are being met. She gives so much of herself even though she is expecting her first child. Mrs. Keily-Vann joined KPLR 11’s Mike Columbo via Skype Friday, June 24th, 2020 so that we could present her award of $500 from Weber Chevrolet. Katie states, “she loves being able to give children hope during the pandemic, which can be frightening for some children and was very thankful for her nomination”

Nomination: “Mrs. Katie Keily-Vann is a teacher at Metro East Lutheran High School. Her students affectionately call her Mrs. KV. Besides her teaching duties, she helps with student council, year book, dances and is the resource management teacher. Her duties as the resource management teacher is helping student who need an extra helping hand. She meets with them daily and helps them out by teaching them organization, time management and coping skills. She has helped hundreds of students become more successful. Part of her duties as resource management instructor is to make sure that the other teachers are doing their part to help meet the student’s educational goals. Since the school is doing electronic learning and no longer in the school building, she has to contact the students and parents by email or phone to make sure they are still working on their homework and their educational goals are being met. She talks to the students and parents whenever they are available. This now includes evenings and weekends. She gives so much of herself even though she is expecting her first child.
