Local Teacher Wins $500 for Helping Students in Need

WATERLOO, IL. – A local teacher has won $500 from Weber Chevrolet for helping students in need.

Jenny Vise is a  7th grade science teacher at Waterloo Junior High School of the Waterloo Community School District 5 in Illinois. With the “Student of Character Award,” she celebrates her students’ character and helps them aspire to be more confident learners.

Her friend, Sharon Marquardt, nominated Vise for KPLR’s Tools For Teachers award of $500 from Weber Chevrolet after she noticed the difference she was making in young people’s lives.

“Her selfless demeanor is a breath of fresh air and I am so extremely grateful to have her as a personal friend and a positive influence on the adolescence in our community,” Marquardt wrote in her nomination.

Vise and Marquardt joined KPLR 11 Thursday, September 26th, 2019 so that Ms. Vise could receive her $500 award.

Nomination: I would love to recognize Ms. Jenny Vise for her GENUINE, KIND and SELFLESS heart. I had the pleasure of meeting her as my son’s 7th-grade Science teacher this past Spring when she presented him with a “Student of Character Award” on the last day of school. I was so proud of my son for displaying all of the qualities that we instill in him- and what spoke to me even more, was that she, too, believed in my son. She took the time to recognize his kindness & overall character and award him for it. I was so grateful for her observation and for the boost in CONFIDENCE it gave my son.

Over this summer, our paths crossed again with some mutual friends, and in the little time that I have gotten to know Jenny, I’ve discovered that she is also a successful single mother of a kindergartner, which from my own previous personal experience can be incredibly tough. She seems to handle it with such grace and she is truly an inspiration to me. She makes me want to be a better person every single day! FACT!

Her selfless demeanor is a breath of fresh air and I am so extremely grateful to have her as a personal friend and a positive influence on the adolescence in our community. I believe Ms. Jenny Vise is beyond deserving of ‘Tools for Teachers’ for her GENUINE, KIND and SELFLESS heart. I hope you agree with me. Thank you for your time.
